Our School Mission Statement
Monday 13th May
Joe Y4 and Caillen YR for making a donation to CAFOD as a birthday celebration. Happy birthday!
Consultation on end of year ‘achievement awards’: a very large majority of all votes received from both adults and children were in favour of keeping the achievement awards as they are now i.e. class teachers will select 3 pupils for a prize based on effort and progress over the year.
Good luck to the girls football team who are taking part in an Atherton and Tyldesley [ATSA] tournament at Fred Longworth today. Coach Chris is confident of a good result!
M and M productions will be back on Friday 24th May with a performance of ‘Charlotte’s Web’ for our Infant classes.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to the pupils in Y4 who have chosen to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Services will be held on Tuesday 14th May 7.00pm at St. Richard’s church and Thursday 16th May 7.00pm at St. Ambrose. Our young people will be going across to St Richard’s to practise on Tuesday afternoon. Following the service on Tuesday evening, refreshments will be provided at St Richard’s school which is about 5 minutes walk from the church. A celebration mass will be held in school on Friday 28th June at 9.30am which also coincides with the feast of Ss Peter and Paul.
Y3/Y4 ‘family mass’
Saturday 18th May 6.00pm at St Richard’s
Although the sunny weather was short lived, here are a few reminders about Summer uniform:
Summer dresses or shorts are an option
Sacred Heart sweatshirts are not to be replaced by any other sweatshirt worn as a coat. It is ok to come without a coat – or even without a sweatshirt if it is really hot!
Sacred Heart caps can be worn any day but on hot days any sun hat or cap is better than risk burning.
Keep uniform expectations high even as the end of the school year approaches, including socks, footwear, jewellery.
As a reminder, Sacred Heart uniform is now available from Tesco Direct who will donate 5% of all profits to school. All items of uniform are also on sale at Wendy’s in Tyldesley.
Mrs Kirkup will be going on maternity leave at half term. Mrs Rabbani will be taking over her duties as Y4/ KS2 Humanities teacher.
Miss Morrow: I will be absent from school for the 2nd half of the Summer Term recovering from surgery. In my absence, Mrs Delargy, as Deputy, will be in overall charge of the school. However, remember that there other staff available should you have any day to day questions or concerns, including:
Dawn [Learning Mentor] for pupil issues
Laura [School Business Manager] for any other matter
Although not mobile, I will be keeping in touch with school via telephone and email and look forward to hearing about all the exciting end of year events that are planned……including ‘Porridge’ the musical!
Walk to school week
w/b 20th May is ‘walk to school’ week – even just one journey or part of journey on foot would decrease the overall amount of traffic trying to squeeze down Lodge Lane.
Don’t forget we are holding our sports days early this year to try and beat the weather! Parents are welcome to join us on Friday 7th June at 10.00am on the field.
The ‘Friends’ would like to do some bag packing in local supermarkets as a fundraiser. However, we need any parents who work in supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco, Morrisons etc… to help us get on the waiting list.
BAND and BOOGIE
Saturday 15th June: BAND and BOOGIE, includes refreshments, buffet and live band [starring Steve the drum teacher!]. £10 tickets for this adult only event being held in St. Richard’s club will go on sale soon. Parents, friends, parishioners and members of the local community are all welcome!
Race for Life
And finally, a team of 20 staff and families are entering the ‘Race for Life’ at Pennington Flash on Sunday 9th June. Your support at the event would be welcome. Should you wish to help ‘Team Sacred Heart’ raise money for Cancer Research UK, you can drop a few coins into our collection tub held in the office or go to our fundraising page and sponsor us on line.
School is closed for the half term holiday from 27th - 31st May, reopening Monday 3rd June.
Have a good break!
Remember the GIVING MACHINE! If you shop online, you can help money for the school by going through ‘the giving machine’. Click on the rainbow icon on the school’s website. The ‘giving machine’ is just a portal or gateway, so you are not giving any personal or financial information to anyone but the store you are purchasing from. Access to 100’s of high street stores e.g. Asda,Tesco, John Lewis, ebay, Amazon etc….. So far, we have earned about £40 in commission from your shopping - at no extra expense to you!
You shop - they give!
